For David Dickinson, 2004 was off to an immediate start as David sang in the New Year with Auld Lang Syne on BBC 1 and January's Star Portrait with Rolf Harris proved to be one of the most popular with TV audiences. David Dickinson played advocate for the hit comedy series Only Fools and Horses for 'Britain's Best Sitcom' on BBC Two in February, which he did most successfully going on to pick up the winning award in March 2004. David was asked to appear on many 'reality' style tv shows including Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen for ITV and David finally chose to take up the challenge of the genre with the stylish Strictly Come Dancing in May for BBC 1. Two further Prime Time Series' of Bargain Hunt in Spring and Autumn have meant David Dickinson has seemed once again to be ever present on our TV Screens in 2004 and like the man himself says 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet'! |

On 18 January 2004, David Dickinson was the subject of Star Portraits hosted by Rolf Harris. Three artists were asked to paint a portrait of David from a personal sitting. Weeks later the finished results were unveiled at The National Portrait Gallery and David was asked to choose his favourite, which he was allowed to keep. Andrew James' painting brought a tear to David's eye as he was confronted by a striking likeness to his Mother. The portrait now has pride of place in David's home. The show was an immense success with audiences and David received 30,000 fan letters for this show alone.
David Dickinson represented 'Only Fools and Horses' on Saturday 28 February as part of the BBC's series to decide 'Britain's Best Sitcom', hosted by Johnathan Ross. In an hour long show on BBC 2 David put the case for the comedy favourite which revolves around wheeler and dealer Del Boy Trotter. In homage to Del Boy, David even recreated the famous scene where Del leans on the bar counter top which isn't there and falls straight over. And almost six million viewers tuned in to see David Dickinson, the celebrity advocate for 'Only Fools and Horses', pick up the award for 'Britain's Best Sitcom' (March 27). David proved a passionate campaigner for the show which garnered 342,426 votes 22.2% of the share well ahead of second placed Blackadder which received 282,106 votes.

Also in March on The Impressionable Jon Culshaw show in a sketch where Jon played David, the one and only real David Dickinson turned up along side him. Jon's 'David' was very well observed, erudite and much more svelte than Mark Perry's edition, but in our opinion 'there ain't nothing like the real thing.'! May 2004 was an amazing month for David Dickinson. His new Prime Series of Bargain Hunt began a ten week run on 12 May which took him all over Britain and the very same week David Dickinson starred in BBC's Saturday Night Showcase Strictly Come Dancing. His bid to win began with a bang as he strutted onto our screens in lycra and sequins to the explosive Tom Jones song 'Sex Bomb' . Sadly a Foxtrot and a Tango later and David was leaving the show with a jaunty wave of his jazz hands. |
