david jazz hands dickinson
Jazz Hands At The Ready!

David Dickinson and his stunning professional dance partner Camilla Dallerup will be appearing on the last show in the series of Strictly Come Dancing, scheduled for Saturday 3 July,  so get your jazz hands ready!  David's now famous 'jazz hands'  wave was taken up by the audience at Blackpool as David and Camilla danced their final dance in the competition, and even the judges joined in!

The Third Saturday Night of Strictly Come Dancing (29 May 2004)
David Bows Out Gracefully - For 'An Elephant With Two Left Feet'

David Dickinson and his dance partner Camilla Dallerup made it to the Mecca of ballroom dancing, 'The Tower Ballroom' in Blackpool, and danced to a fabulous full house of enthusiastic dance fans.David was delighted to be there, and he and Camilla looked relax and in tune as they danced their Tango with a touch of nostalgia and an Argentinean theme.  Sadly although they were not last on the judges scoring, this was their last night in the competition and they bowed out very gracefully.  The stunning Camilla kept up her stunning smiles and David said of her "She'd have done much better if she wasn't dancing with a 62 year-old elephant with two left feet,".. "she is terrific and deserved to go the whole way".
A Big 'Thank You' to all The Duke's fans for your support and to all of you who voted.

David Dickinson is among the eight TV celebrities to take up the challenge of the new BBC showcase show Strictly Come Dancing, hosted by TV favourite Bruce Forsyth. David will have to Cha Cha Cha and Quickstep his way around the dance floor in front of a judging panel of top dancing experts. David has described the dance training as a 'nightmare', and 'really tough'. He's determined to give the competition his best shot as proceeds from phone in voting will go to charity. We'll bring you more details soon. Strictly Come Dancing starts May 15 on Saturday nights BBC 1 and see David in rehearsals for Strictly Come Dancing daily on BBC 3 at 8.30 pm every weekday, these shows will include exclusive footage from the rehearsals and updates on training, as well as interviews with the contestants. .

David Gets Tangoed!
Some people have been calling David Dickinson the Tango Man for sometime as a reference to his glowing tan, but now David really will be Tango Man as he and his dancing partner Camilla Dallerup have chosen to dance the Tango (the dance of love) for the next part of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing competition live on BBC 1 Saturday 29 May at 6.25pm Tune in and see how they do this week live for the home of Come Dancing the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool. And dont forget to vote now for your favourites to stay in the competition.

The Second Saturday Night of Strictly Come Dancing (22 May 2004)
David Dickinson and Camilla Dallerup had to 'Face The Music and Dance' the quickstep. The opening line of their dance track 'There maybe trouble ahead' didn't seem to auger well for the couple who were among the favourites to face the first elimination of the competition. After the shock low scoring from the judges last week, David promised Camilla he would put in '101 percent' throughout the week's rehearsals to hopefully move a place up the ladder.  David looked dapper in his white tie and tails and carried of the ballroom dancing much more relaxed than he had done with the Latin dancing. The announcement of the couple to be eliminated was a truly nail biting affair, once all the 'safe' couples had left the dance floor it came down to just two couples, David and Camilla and Jason and Kylie. Fans held their breath until finally it was announced that Jason and Kylie were the unlucky couple on the night, leaving David and Camilla in Strctly Come Dancing for another week.  Thanks to all the fans who voted for David and Camilla to stay, your votes were vital. David and Camilla are still not scoring high enough with the judgse so please vote if you want to see more of the all dancing Duke.

JUDGES SCORE: 21 (Craig: 3 Arlene: 6 Len: 6 Bruno: 6)

The First Saturday Night of Strictly Come Dancing (15 May 2004)
David Dickinson put in a crowd pleasing performance dancing the Cha Cha Cha with his dance partner Camilla Dallerup.  David was wearing a black and red one piece out fit with see-through panels and strutted his stuff to 'Sex Bomb'. But despite the enthusiastic applause of the studio audience the judges were less impressed and their marking left David and Camilla with the lowest score. Here's how the BBC website report it:

DAVID AND CAMILLA didn't have the easiest of times in training, but put on a brave face for their Cha Cha Cha to 'Sexbomb', with Camilla giving David the occasional reassuring pat. "We could see you counting," applauded Bruce as they stepped off the floor. The judges weren't impressed. "David's all pomp and no circumstance," said Arlene. The duo ended up in last place.

JUDGES SCORE: Total 16 out of a possible 40 (Bruno: 4 Arlene: 4 Len: 6 Craig: 2)

TELEPHONE VOTE IS VITAL
With the judges vote accounting for 50% of the score required to keep the couple in the competition it is all down to the vital telephone vote.  If you want to see more of David Dickinson and his gorgeous professional dancing partner Camilla, then place you vote by calling 09011 211 117.  Calls cost 25p and at least 12p of that goes to the charity Sport Relief.

JUDGE FOR YOURSELF AND VOTE

Almost six million viewers tuned in to see David Dickinson, the celebrity advocate for 'Only Fools and Horses', pick up the award for 'Britain's Best Sitcom' on BBC Two (March 27). David proved a passionate campaigner for the show which garnered 342,426 votes 22.2% of the share well ahead of second placed Blackadder which received 282,106 votes. David argued that the shows writer "John Sullivan does what other writers don't. He makes you laugh and cry. He brings you birth, deaths and marriages. I love Del Boy and the man who plays him. David Jason really is a comic genius." David also claims that 'Only Fools and Horses' featured the "the single best sight gag on telly" when Del Trotter fell through a pub bar.
David was clearly delighted to be the last man standing on the live show, and was given a commemorative cup as souvenir of his triumph.
Actor David Jason, who plays Del boy, said after the result: "I am delighted that something which gave me some of the happiest times of my life still gives pleasure to so many people." Writer John Sullivan said: "I started writing Only Fools and Horses in 1981 because I knew that in 23 years time there would be a Britain's Best Sitcom competition and I wanted to win it.- I'm delighted for everyone connected with the series and my thanks to everyone who voted for us."

David Advocate for Sitcom in Brand New Show(17.12.03)
TV viewers are to vote for the Britain's Best Sitcom in a new series to be hosted by Jonathan Ross. Hot on the heels of shows which debated the best Britons, books and buildings, the audience will now decide on the top situation comedy. A top 50, voted on by 60,000 viewers, will be revealed in a three-hour programme in the New Year. Then, from January until March, the top 10 comedies will each have an hour-long Saturday night programme in which celebrity advocates will argue for their choices. David Dickinson will be among the stars to represent their favourite sitcom. The presentations will include classic clips from the sitcom and comments on the show's stars. The series will end with a live special in which viewers vote to determine which show will be crowned Britain's Best Sitcom. Definitely a series to look out for.

The Impressionable Jon Culshaw - ITV (26.02.04)

David Dickinson guests on the first of a brand new series starring top British impressionist Jon Culshaw. In a sketch where Jon plays David, the one and only real David Dickinson turns up along side him. Jon the star of BBC's Dead Ringers (in which Mark Perry impersonated The Duke) has swopped sides to make his own show for ITV. Jon's 'David' is very well observed, erudite and much more svelte than Perry's edition, but in our opinion 'there ain't nothing like the real thing.'. You can catch Jon's impression on ITV2, Tuesday March 2 at 9.00 pm.

DAVID PART OF ADOPTION AGENCY SUCCESS (06.02.04)

The British Association of Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) has commended Cheshire adoption agency, Adoption Matters, for the success of its 'Children Who Wait' campaign during National Adoption Week. Adoption Matters, who places children with adoptive parents across Cheshire, South Manchester and North East Wales, reached new heights with its most successful adoption week campaign ever - thanks in part to the help of adopted celebrity David Dickinson.
David backed the campaign which asked for people to come forward to adopt some of the children who wait longest for new families, including older children and those with physical and mental disabilities. Resulting media coverage doubled traffic to the new agency website, www.adoptionmatters.org, and tripled the amount of initial enquiries from potential adopters. A number of people have already gone forward to adopt children thanks to the campaign.

Star Portrait of David Dickinson
The Winning Portrait, by Artist Andrew James
revealed on Sunday 18th January

STAR PORTRAIT OF THE DUKE (04.01.04)
Star Portraits -BBC 1 Sunday 18 January 6.05 - 6.35pm

David is one of the four celebrities featured in BBC 1's new Sunday evening series Star Portraits, hosted by Rolf Harris. David sat for his portrait to be painted for five hours by three artists, in the comfort of his beautiful home on the edge of the Peak District. He was not allowed to see the results until an unveiling at the National Portrait Gallery in London. David had never sat for a painting before and spent the time trying to imagine what styles and approach each artist would use. It was not until minutes before the unveiling and his first chance to see the finished works that he began to get nervous. He says 'I did feel apprehensive and the experience was quite overwhelming.' David was moved to tears when he saw the three portraits and choosing the one painting to keep for himself was an emotional episode. Of his choice he says 'It has guts and soul - and I like to think it's a picture of the real me.'
The portrait now has pride of place, displayed on a large in easel in his open plan home

We will bring you a review of Star Portrait of David Dickinson with images and further details about the artists very soon.
If you saw the show please email us and tell us which portrait you liked the most.

You can see all 12 star portraits from the series in full, and vote for your favourite at The New Art Gallery Walsall (Tuesday to Sunday until 28th March 2004). For further details contact reception on 01922 654 40 or visit their website at http://www.artatwalsall.org.uk/art/index.html

DAVID IN HIT ITV SERIES HEARTBEAT (14.01.02)
David has been offered a cameo role in the hit TV series 'Heartbeat' and will be discussing scripts and storylines with the show's producer. It is hoped that David's character will appear in a number of episodes planned for the 14th series to air this autumn. David will be following a string of big-name celebrities who have made guest appearances on the ITV, drama, which is set in the 1960s in the fictional village of Aidensfield. Heartbeat is a firm favourite with viewers and regularly has audiences in excess of 10 million.

Watch Out For The Duke on News Year Eve!
The BBC have commissioned a special version of Auld Lang Syne, sung by celebrities to be shown across their network at three minutes past midnight, New Years Eve. Auld Lang Syne, performed by Rolf Harris, includes David Dickinson amongst a host of other TV celebrities in a style reminiscent of the BBC’s Perfect Day tribute several years back, with David joining in the chorus. If he sounds a little croaky, it's not that he is following one of his favourite singers Rod Stewart, it is because he was suffering with a heavy cold on the day of recording.
